Praise & Worship (Hamd-o-Sana) is a free online hymnal. We collect as little about you as we can: there are no accounts for visitors, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookies. This page explains exactly what we do collect and what we do with it.
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address and message, so that we can reply.
- Contributions. When you suggest lyrics, a recording or a correction, we store what you submit and, if you choose to give them, your name and email address so we can follow up or credit you.
- Comments. The name you enter and your comment. Comments are public — they are shown on the hymn page to everyone — so please don’t include anything you want to keep private.
Information collected automatically
- Likes. When you like a hymn, your browser creates a random identifier (not linked to your name, email or device details) and sends it with the like, so each device is counted once.
- Server logs. Like almost every website, our web server records basic technical details of each request — IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time — to keep the site secure and working. We do not use these logs to build profiles of visitors.
Information that stays on your device
Your saved favourites, personal notes, the hymns you have liked, and your preferred script (Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi or Roman) are stored only in your own browser’s local storage. They are never sent to us, and clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
Cookies
The hymnal itself does not set cookies for visitors. The only cookie we use is a login cookie for the site’s editors. Embedded content from other services (see below) may set its own cookies.
How we use information
- to reply to your messages and review your contributions;
- to publish comments and show like counts;
- to credit contributors, where you have asked to be credited;
- to keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Who we share it with
- Hosting. The site and its database are hosted on servers provided by DigitalOcean, which processes data on our behalf.
- Legal reasons. If the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
Embedded content from other services
Some pages include content that loads from other companies. When it loads, your browser connects to that company, which receives your IP address and may set cookies or collect information under its own privacy policy:
- YouTube videos, using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (Google Privacy Policy);
- Vimeo videos (Vimeo Privacy Policy);
- GuitarApp tools on our Guitar Tools pages (guitarapp.com). The tuner asks for microphone access; the audio is processed in your browser to detect pitch and is not recorded by us.
Do Not Track and tracking by others
We do not track visitors across other websites, so our site behaves the same whether or not your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal. The embedded services listed above may collect information about your activity over time and across different websites; we do not control them, and they may not respond to Do Not Track signals.
How long we keep it
We keep contact messages and contributions for as long as we need them to respond and maintain the hymnal, and delete them when they are no longer useful. Comments and likes remain until they, or the hymn they belong to, are removed. Server logs are rotated and overwritten automatically.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you — including removing a comment you posted — by using our contact form. Tell us what you would like changed and enough detail (such as the hymn and the name you used) for us to find it. We respond to every request, whether or not a particular law requires us to.
You can remove anything stored on your device at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Children
The hymnal is for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and messages and contributions can only be read by the site’s editors. No method of storing or sending information is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use information you have already given us, we will make that clear on this page before it takes effect.
